چکیده

In this paper, we examine discrete time propagation graphs as a potential framework for thin scattering layer models. The particular class of interest are propagation graphs formed from Cayley graphs of Zd, as their underlying geometry and shift-invariance make them appealing as potential models of the desired physical process. We show that their shift-invariant nature makes it possible to use Fourier analysis and residue calculus to recover exact expressions for transfer functions on the graph when d = 1. Moreover, we reduce the propagation of Fourier modes on the graph in the general case to the d = 1 case, and provide exact solutions for propagation in a layer of the graph with a finite depth. We also consider direction-dependent propagation (e.g. Mie scattering) and extend both the models and methods developed to this new regime. The mathematical tools developed in this paper may provide a framework for the future development of a model of thin scattering layers using graph theory.

Quantitative Comparison of Analytical solution and Finite Element Method for investigation of Near-Infrared Light Propagation in Brain Tissue Model

Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...

The study of propagation of a femtosecond laser pulse in the breast tissue

In this paper, the evaluation of time profile of a femtosecond pulse laser propagated through biological tissues is studied. The majority of the biological tissues with a high scattering anisotropy must be considered as turbid media, that their optical responses are complicated. To study the propagation of ultra-short pulse in turbid media, the diffuse equation is used. In this study, the analy...

Near-infrared light propagation in an adult head model. I. Modeling of low-level scattering in the cerebrospinal fluid layer.

Adequate modeling of light propagation in a human head is important for quantitative near-infrared spectroscopy and optical imaging. The presence of a nonscattering cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) that surrounds the brain has been previously shown to have a strong effect on light propagation in the head. However, in reality, a small amount of scattering is caused by the arachnoid trabeculae in the CS...

A Study of the Wave Propagation Velocity in Granular Soils Using Discrete Element Method (DEM)

In the present paper, discrete element method (DEM) is used to study wave propagation phenomenon in granular soils. The effect of factors such as coefficient of friction, frequency, normal stiffness and soil gradation on the wave velocity is studied. Using the wall motion based on the sinusoidal function is the method of loading used in this simulation, through which the pressure wave is transf...
